Profil

„Our main goal is to be able to serve, focusing on the well-being of our patients.“

Dr. Diego Posadas Pinto is a physician specializing in neurology. This is the study of the nervous system, diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles.

His main motivation has been his father, who is also a neurologist, and this inspired him to make the decision to specialize in neurology. He also studied this profession, because in Guatemala there are not many specialists who can help treat patients with neurological diseases. Thus, he was able to offer this possibility to many more people in his country.

Dr. Diego Posadas Pinto graduated as a medical doctor from Universidad Francisco Marroquín. He later completed his medical subspecialty as an internist at the Hospital General San Juan de Dios, where he continues to work as chief of emergency medicine for adults.

He then continued his medical training in Mexico for 3 additional years, completing a subspecialty in clinical neurology at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán. Not satisfied, he studied at this same university the high specialty in cerebral vascular disease. This is an alteration in the neurons, which produces a reduction in blood flow in the brain, accompanied by permanent or momentary cerebral variations. It is divided into 2 subtypes, hemorrhagic and ischemic.

Finally, Dr. Posadas Pinto received his master’s degree in epilepsy endorsed by the University of Murcia in Spain. Epilepsy is a disorder of the central nervous system, where brain activity ceases to be normal. This causes periods of unusual behavior or sensations or seizures and, in some cases, loss of consciousness.

In Dr. Diego Posadas Pinto’s clinic, they have the latest technology to perform electroencephalogram, equipment for nerve conduction velocities and electromyography, or evoked potentials, for the treatment of central neurological and peripheral nerve diseases.

Dr. Posadas Pinto has a team of sub-specialists with extensive knowledge of pediatric and adult neurological diseases, such as nerve disorders, neuropathy, and adult neuromuscular diseases.

Dr. Posadas Pinto’s vocation has always been to be a neurology physician. In practice, he discovered that one of his greatest satisfactions is to be able to help his patients, attending to the concerns that may arise in the process of recovery of their lives. For him, the most important thing is to improve the patient’s quality of life so that he or she can lead as normal a life as possible.

„We want to be empathetic with the patient and their family, mainly to help them treat their disease with the sole objective of improving their quality of life.“

This is an alteration in the neurons, which produces a reduction in the blood flow of the brain, accompanied by cerebral variations permanently or momentarily. It is divided into 2 subtypes. On the one hand, there is transient cerebral ischemia, which is produced by the interruption of blood flow, and the symptoms last a few minutes, the patient recovering completely in less than 24 hours. And, on the other hand, cerebral infarction, which appears when blood flow is interrupted by an obstruction, which may be caused by fat or blood, in a blood vessel.

In Dr. Diego Posadas Pinto’s clinic, they have the latest technology to perform electroencephalogram, equipment for nerve conduction velocities and electromyography, in order to diagnose peripheral nerve diseases.

Dr. Posadas Pinto has a team of sub-specialists in neurology with extensive knowledge in nerve disorders, neuropathy, or neuromuscular diseases. This allows for a much more extensive and in-depth study of neurological diseases, such as muscular dystrophy, headaches, back pain, among others.  It also has a neuropsychology team to treat problems in conjunction with the psychology department.

They also have a pediatric neurologist on staff, so that they can focus on giving children with neurological diseases such as epilepsy, paralysis, and others the gift of a normal life.

„What we really want is to help our patients be better off.“
