“Vision is one of the most important organs of the body. We have to give it the necessary follow-up and learn about our family history. This will prevent us from many surprises.”
Dr. Rudy Gutiérrez Paz is an ophthalmologist, physician, and surgeon who deals with the study of the eye and its diseases. He has 7 years of experience and specializes in glaucoma, which is a condition that damages the optic nerve, due to elevated eye pressure. This is one of the main causes of blindness and why most of his patients consult him. Fortunately, if detected early, it can be treated with medication. For this purpose, he has state-of-the-art slit lamp equipment, which allows him to evaluate the different structures located in front and inside the eye.
In addition, he is consulted for myopia and astigmatism, diseases that cause blurred and distorted vision, as a result of light not being focused directly on the retina. He also performs cataract surgeries 3 to 5 times a week at the “Centro de Cirugía Ocular”, located in the Artes Medicas Building. Cataracts are a condition of the eye’s natural lens, which becomes progressively cloudy. The lens or crystalline lens is responsible for refracting the light rays that enter the eye to help us see. Dr. Rudy Gutierrez Paz also performs refractive and dry eye surgeries, the latter is the lack of tears that lubricate the eye, making vision clear.
Dr. Gutierrez Paz studied as a physician and surgeon at the University of San Carlos, then specialized in ophthalmology at the University of Galileo, where he also specializes in glaucoma. Additionally, he attended numerous international courses and congresses, both for cataract surgery and refractive surgery, and glaucoma. He is also an active member of the Guatemalan Glaucoma Society and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, among others. He believes that it is essential to continue specializing and constantly updating himself with the latest knowledge of the moment.
What makes Dr. Gutierrez unique is the way he treats his patients. He is always looking for the best option or treatment for your eyes, being very honest about options, results, treatments, and ultimately how each patient’s eye will evolve. Dr. Rudy Gutierrez Paz‘s clinic is located at the “Centro de Cirugía Ocular”.
Dr. Gutierrez‘s other passions are scuba diving and photography, which he combines through the practice of underwater photography. He is excited about integrating all possible aspects to get the best result.
“One always has to offer the best one has and can do for others. This benefits everyone, both professionally and personally. “
